How do I fit DimensionU in to my already packed day?
DimensionU can be utilized for as few as 5 minutes a day (we recommend about 20-30 minutes per week when possible). Think about a lesson that finishes early or students who need an enrichment or remedial activity. Even a bell ringer or closing activity is a great place for DimensionU. If you have a computer or mobile device, and 5 minutes- DimensionU can fit! We know many teachers face a technology shortage in their school or classroom so we encourage you to consider a small group or individual DimensionU activity. Perhaps you have only 1 computer and its attached to a projector. No problem! Call a student up to answer a question in the game and then tag in another student to take their place. This is a great opportunity to talk about the questions whole group as they appear. If you are fortunate enough to have a class set of computers or a designated lab time, consider a whole class DimensionU game. This is the perfect opportunity to use the team option and allow students to work together. Can DimensionU be used outside of the classroom? Absolutely! Many of our clients run before and after school programs with DimensionU. Our high engagement factor makes us a desirable activity for students, while our standards alignment means kids are focused on important content. Students can also log into our games at home or on-the-go; yet another way to extend the school day learning. What if I have a student who isn't behaving/playing properly? Thankfully, we find that since students love DimensionU (and therefore, don't want to lose the privilege of using it), their behavior is often excellent. But as always, your classroom management rules should apply. If a student is not behaving appropriately or utilizing DimensionU properly, follow your class or school policy on discipline. This game makes me motion sick! How am I supposed to show my students how to play? Not to worry! Your students will be naturals at DimensionU. As educators, we know that our students learn and retain more through doing. This is the perfect opportunity! You teach the content, they'll teach themselves (and their classmates) the game. Consider giving students their account information and asking them to log in at home before you introduce DimensionU to your entire class. You're guaranteed to have a few experts when it comes time. Need more help? Remember the "?" key in the top corner during each game will bring your students through various tutorials. Tell them to check those out. What if the games aren't working or I have another question? Who should I contact? We recommend you contact your building technology personnel if you feel the issues you're experienced are device specific (i.e. keyboard/mouse trouble or trouble with only select computers/devices). If the problem appears to be game related (i.e. account problem or student cannot join a game room) please email support@dimensionu.com. Give us as much information as possible, including any applicable screenshots. |
